In Honor of Alzheimer's Disease Month For the Caregiver
During the series, caregivers learn how to navigate the responsibilities of caring for someone living with dementia. Individuals can attend one or all sessions. Each session will focus on a different topic of caregiving. All session will be virtual
June 2, 2026- 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Building Foundations of Caregiving explores the role of caregiver and changes they may experience, building a support team and managing caregiver stress.
June 9, 2026- 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Supporting Independence focuses on helping the person living with dementia take part in daily activities, providing the right amount of support and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations.
June 16, 2026- 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Communicating Effectively teaches how dementia affects communication, including tips for communicating well with family, friends and health care professionals.
June 23, 2026- 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors details common behavior changes and how they are a form of communication, non-medical approaches to behaviors and recognizing when additional help is needed.
June 30, 2026- 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Exploring Care and Support Services examines how best to prepare for future care decisions and changes, including respite care, residential care and end-of life care
This educational series was developed through the Alzheimer's Association but can be useful for caregivers of loved ones with any diagnosis.

Sentara Martha Jefferson Caregiver and Wellness Center
Fully funded through community support, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital’s Caregiver and Wellness Center provides emotional support and resources free of charge to help family caregivers, community members, and professional caregivers care for themselves while caring for individuals with serious illness.
