Market Central December 12, 2023

Access to fresh, healthy food is fundamental to a healthy life. Yet thousands of children and families in our region live in poverty and lack regular access to nourishing, fresh food. To get healthy food to the people who need it most, Sentara Cares grant funding is enabling Market Central to hire a dedicated staff person to connect families to the SNAP food assistance program and help them use SNAP benefits at area farmers’ markets. Currently, up to 20% of the people in our region who are SNAP-eligible are not accessing the program.
