We were delighted to shower our wonderful SMJH volunteers with appreciation with a festive celebration on December 11 at The Greencroft Club. From dedicated volunteers in their ninth decade, to college students and junior volunteers, every single one of our 323 hospital volunteers makes a difference for our patients, families and team members. In 2024, these generous community members donated a remarkable 33,935 hours of their time, equating to $1,132,750 in value.
That is truly a gift worth celebrating! We were especially pleased to recognize two dedicated members of our volunteer team–Lynne Owen and Andy Anderson–for their long and illustrious service. Both volunteer twice a week at the hospital, bringing warmth and smiles to patients and team members alike.
Now in her ninth decade of life, Lynn has volunteered with us for 22 years and starting in the surgery lounge at the old hospital. When the new hospital was built, she moved first to the Outpatient Care Center concierge desk and now volunteers twice a week at the Phillips Cancer Center desk. She sings in her church choir as well with a community singing group.
Also in his ninth decade, Andy has volunteered with us for 14 years and was recruited by his dear late wife. He serves at the Phillips Cancer Center desk Friday and Mondays. He also sings with his church choir and served 26 years in the Air Force retiring as a Colonel. He had several other careers after that all focused on helping others.
Huge thanks to Lynne, Andy, and all our volunteers for dedication, presence, heart and care they give to the hospital and all our patients. You all put smiles on our faces when we see you and we cannot thank you enough for all you do! Contact Renee Dinwiddie if you would like to join our team as a hospital volunteer.
