A Caring Community in Action
From meditation resources to volunteer opportunities, the following are a few suggestions on resources to help you care for yourself and the community we love.
There are so many opportunities to explore the community! Here are a few of our favorites:
Around the Community
Rivanna Trail - 20-mile Trail that circles Charlottesville. Hop on and hop off anywhere.
Rivanna Trail Monthly Walks - Monthly walks of parts of the trail on the last Wednesdays of the month at 6 pm.
Prolyfck Run Creww - 6 am running group that meets at the Jefferson School City Center M/W/F
Xtreme Hip Hop & Bootcamp Style Fitness Classes - free exercise classes in Charlottesville and Louisa, organized by Sentara's own community health team.
Healthy Cooking Classes - free cooking class with nationally recognized Chef Antwon Brinson at Barracks Row, organized by Sentara's community health team.
Mindful Resources
Women's Initiative - local counseling and group services for women and non-binary individuals
UVA Compassionate Care Initiative - "support nurses, physicians, allied health workers, and students by teaching resilience and compassion in health care through educational and experiential programs." While it is a UVA program, SMJH staff is encouraged to explore their free offerings.
Wisdom and Wellbeing - The Wisdom and Wellbeing Program was founded "to help team members be at their best - and flourish- at work." While this program is offered at UVA, SMJH employees and staff have access to and are encouraged to use this program.
Mental Health Advocacy
Sentara Martha Jefferson has a vast reach in our community through partnership and financial support. Get involved with our Community Benefit department to learn more about how SMJH gives back and gets involved in our community.
Most all of the work the Community Benefit team does is based around our triannual Community Health Needs Assessment. Check out their page to learn more about the community's health needs and how we are implementing change.
