2024 Impact Report Leading the Charge for Women's Health
In 2024, The Women’s Committee of Martha Jefferson Hospital raised a remarkable $152,964.40 for women's health in our community. From free breast health screening days serving 200 women annually to wigs, scarves and educational resources to help women on the cancer journey, TWC-funded hospital programs are a lifeline for women and families during some of the toughest moments of their lives. Thank you for your support!
Free breast health screening Hosted by The Women's Committee
Given rising cancer rates, experts now recommend that women over 40 receive regular mammograms. Funding through In The Pink, Martha's Market and other TWC events enables more than 600 community members annually to access the hospital's FREE cancer screenings and prevention programs for women at high risk of developing breast cancer.
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital offers free, limited by-appointment-only spots for breast health screenings.
Cancer resource center
At a time when many cancer patients worry about their ability to afford treatment, TWC support makes possible a wide range of free Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital support services for women in our community. Marianne's Room is funded by the The Women's Committee, and provides FREE wigs, scarves, and support to women on their cancer journey. TWC generosity is enabling the hospital's Cancer Resource Center to expand its reach, providing FREE nutrition and exercise consultations, counseling, massage therapy and art therapy.
Cancer Survivorship
From an annual fly-fishing retreat for women cancer survivors (pictured) to a 12-week survivorship program that helps patients navigate the fears that arise after treatment, the services made possible through TWC support are a lifeline for patients feeling uncertain about the future. These offerings help to manage fears about the cancer recurring, as well as common physical, emotional, and fertility challenges.
The Caring Embrace
Every Wednesday, a dedicated group of knitting volunteers gathers at our hospital to craft comfort and warmth for patients in need. They have created more than 5,000 blankets and shawls for patients, as well as handmade caps for newborns. The Women's Committee supplies yarn and knitting materials, ensuring these heartfelt gifts continue to reach those who need them most.
